Cleansing and Consecrating Your Magickal Space

It is important to cleanse the space you use to perform your magickal work. You must remove all the little bits and pieces of negative energy and left overs from other people and sometimes even your own old spells. This always seems like a large and rather time-consuming effort, but it does not have to be especially if you do it regularly.

To perform a cleansing of your space you will need the following tools:

broom, 2 illuminator candles, a chalice of Holy Wiccan Water, lighter to light the candles, a silver candle, your alter pentacle, a small bowl of earth, 4 element candles (blue, red, green, and yellow) and sage incense

If you have Holy Wiccan Water already made that will save you some time. This is always a good component of your magickal cupboard anyways. If you do not have any then you can look up a recipe and make some.

The best time to perform a cleansing is usually during the waning moon phase to get rid of any pesky stuff in the corners or on a new moon to signal a new beginning. Your sacred space should be house kept before your perform your ritual, this includes vacuuming, dusting, cleaning the windows, washing the walls (if they are bad, if not then just a wipe to get rid of cob webs and dust should be enough) and cleaning any furniture that maybe in the area. Next clean yourself by having a shower and let all of the psychic debris wash away. You can envision a cleansing rain or even a gentle waterfall during this time to also wash the soul.

Now you are ready to begin your ritual. Set up your alter with your pentacle and other magickal tools you use. Place the element candles at the corresponding compass points of where you will cast your circle and place the silver candle on your alter. Use the illuminator candles on your alter as well and light all the candles. Cast your circle. You will not need to invite the Watchtowers to this ritual unless you have some very nasty energy you wish to dispel. But if you need them then call upon them. Light the incense.

It is up to you to choose the words of the ritual and the methods to use all the elements within your cleansing. But here are some suggestions:

Use your broom to sweep the area and chant, “As I sweep I cleanse my space, by the power of air I cleanse my place.” You can continue with the other elements in this manner until you have gone through all four of them. Ask the powers of the Divine to consecrate the space and direct the energy of the Universe to fill and bless your sacred space. You are now done. Remember to thank the elements and the God and Goddess for their blessings and open your circle.

It may seem as if we are magickally clean people but sometimes we forget about that spell that sort-of-kind-of backfired and needs to be cleaned up. This likened to physically cleaning a closet, no one wants to do it but once it is done the rewards are satisfying and very worthwhile.
